Make Art with Purpose
In 2010, in a year long residency in San Franciso, I founded Make Art with Purpose (MAP) with the support of Slovak artist Oto Hudec. MAP produces innovative projects that shape and transform our world in positive ways. Working in collaboration and across disciplines, MAP advances models for producing art that are rooted in consciousness and address equity and justice. MAP communities in the design and production of our work and we directly engage the audience to participate beyond the role of passive observer. Founded on the belief that artists can contribute to and make positive, lasting social change, MAP exists to make a constructive contribution to social and environmental justice concerns throughout the world. MAP’s on-going projects include Janeil Engelstad’s podcast, The MAP Radio Hour, a web site of project based work that addresses social and environmental concerns throughout he globe, and AMPL!FY: Leveraging the Power of Art and Design to advance social and environmental justice, a public art, design and educational project that supports the work of grass roots organizations working on the front lines of social justice.
